Thank you for sharing. This divisiveness still exists in pockets of South Africa, thirty years after the demise of apartheid. For instance, the area where I live has many conservative whites who give me the "look" when I hug or greet a black person.
Even during apartheid, I was always welcomed in a black community - for instance sneaking out to a mixed race party (which was against the law).
I remember once going out with the black driver and loader on their furniture deliver rounds to meet the store managers in person. I sat between them in the front cab - the looks of horror on the faces of the white pedestrians as we drove past them, made us laugh! A moment of light during dark times.
