Loved this piece. Retirement is an alien concept to me. It implies that once we reach a certain biological age, 60 or 65, we are beyond help and a burden to society.

Retirement was forced on me at 65 because the law says the employer is not obliged to employ me beyond that age, despite my competence and ability.

That came as a shock and more debilitating was that because of my “age” I was not employable — believe you me I tried.

But I haven’t given up. I’ve revived an old childhood passion — to write. It doesn’t put food on the table but it sure as hell helps my self-esteem!
