I'm terrified of bees, wasps and hornets - we get all three here in summer. I allow them to fly around outside but they enter my home at their peril - I am always within reach of a can of insecticide because they haven't yet learned they are not allowed inside!

As a kid at boarding school, walking barefoot on the kopje, I trod on a wasp nest - the agony was unbearable,

A few years later, at home and again barefoot in the garden, I trod on a bee! My whole foot swelled up and I had to have a cortisone shot.

So you can understand my anitpathy.

A hornet stung my hubby on his eyelid a couple years ago and I treated it with a cotton bud soaked in tea tree oil. Works every time for mosquito and spider bites.
