His real name is Lee Ridley — he adopted his stage name, Lost Voice Guy, because he can’t speak.

I’ve written before about how I despise computer-generated voices, but I’ll make an exception in Lee’s case. Because he’s so fucking funny.

I discovered him by chance when I caught a re-run of a 2018 episode of Live at the Apollo in which he featured. Though I’ve lived in South Africa for decades, and love the local humour, my DNA finds British comedy irresistible.

Nothing beats a bad day better than a bloody good laugh. I’m here to spread the cheer.

The early years

Lee Ridley was born in Consett, County Durham, on 31 December 1980, and diagnosed with cerebral palsy at six months old, leaving him with a limp and unable to speak.

He explains that his inability to talk left him feeling lonely and isolated. Being unable to socialise because of his disability was hard for him.

His confidence grew when he received a communication device at eight.
