Baked beans on toast is my comfort food because I remember one time when parents were absent and no food in the home, my eight-year- old brother and six-year old me went to the neighbours to ask for some food - they made us baked beans on toast!

A year later, moved to guardians, I fell in love with the jam tarts and baked puddings which Aunty Kitty conjured up in her kitchen.

I know what it's like to be hungry and to this day I never waste food - only buy what I will consume. My heart bleeds for those who go to bed hungry every night - including even here in South Africa where an estimated 20-million people suffer this fate.
