Aha! I do that for my laptop which overheats in summer - wrap two ice bricks in a tea towel and perch my laptop on top of them. Works like a charm! And much cheaper than paying a computer tech a minimum one hour labor charge to replace the cooling gel or whatever they call it - I tried that with my old HP and was total waste of money.

I use fans to keep the cottage cool in the hot summer months, one strategically aimed at my workstation - but hadn't thought of putting ice in front of it. Thanks for the tip.

Oh I never thought of that for cooling a laptop--great idea! I'm glad the ice in front of the fan trick might be helpful; I do find it cooling. Sometimes I will freeze a couple of plastic containers of water to have different icy containers to use in front of the fan.
